Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of elder¡¯s role performance and self-esteem on successful aging.
Methods: The participants were 207 elders from D city. Data were collected from April to May, 2012 using a questionnaire. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 18.0 using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression.
Results: Factors that have an effect on successful aging were role performance (¥â=.429), self-esteem (¥â=.388), health status (¥â=-.185), family type (¥â=.156), gender (¥â=.128), and pocket money (¥â=.092). These factors explain 56.9% of the variance in successful aging.
Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that role performance has the strongest influence. Based on the results of this study, we need to develop programs to meet the regional characteristics and increase opportunities for social participation of elderly people.
